Divya Saxena ICC America’s Qualifier MVP!

Tournament MVP was the most deserving award bestowed on Canada’s Divya
Saxena at the conclusion of the Mexico City hosted October 18-25 ICC 2022
Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualification Tournament. Saxena copped the
prestigious award on the basis of her outstanding batting, bowling, and fielding
during the tournament.
Playing as the Canadian team’s opening batter, Saxena recorded scores of
70*,22*,3,39*,40 and 6 in the six innings she batted. Her scores yielded an aggregate
of 180 runs and a 60.00 average. She also registered a strike rate of 86.12.
Saxena’s 180 run aggregate was the highest by any batter during the six match
per team tournament which also featured Argentina, Brazil and the USA as the
three other participating countries. The 70 not out she scored in Canada’s opening

match against Argentina was also the tournament’s highest
individual score and the only half-century by any Batter
during the entire competition. Saxena also scored the
highest number of boundaries, during the tournament, the
17 she registered being more than twice as many as that
from her nearest rival.
Saxena’s outstanding batting also earned her the
Tournament’s Best Batter Award and most deservedly so.
As one of the Commentators noted during the ICCTV’s
broadcast after having seen her bat in the first three to
four Canadian team’s matches it was if she was batting on a
different surface than any of her colleagues or competitors.
Saxena was also relatively successful as a bowler and
outstanding in the field as a catcher during the tournament.
Bowling her slow medium off and leg cutters, she captured
2/55 runs from 19 overs bowled at an average of 27.50. Her
economy rate was also a highly impressive 2.89 as she didn’t
concede even a single boundary in any of her 19 overs
bowled.
Fielding mostly at first slip, Saxena also accounted for 3
catches, Her tally was the second-most by a Canadian behind
Hala Azmat’s 4, and the fourth-highest amount overall.
