Starting Small With Hopes Of Growing Big!

From 1929 when the West Indies played its
first ever Test Match as international cricket’s
fourth test playing “country” until now,
cricketers from the Caribbean have garnered
global attention as some of the very best the
sport has ever known. In the words of one of those
very best however, the great West Indies and
Jamaican fast bowler Michael Holding, “further
writings on West Indies cricket are now much
needed as we haven’t done as well as we should
have in recording our achievements as proudly
as we ought to. As a nation or region, we have
achieved a lot more than nations many multiples
of our size and yet we have too often depended
on people from outside of the Region to highlight
our exploits!”
Welcome therefore the very first edition of
WI Wickets, a monthly, online magazine,
geared towards chronicling the outstanding
achievements of West Indies cricketers, past,
present and those of future potential as well, WI
Wickets is intended to serve as a literary catalyst
for the restoration of lost pride in Caribbean
cricket.
With future articles and editorial features written
by some of the Caribbean Region’s very best
cricket oriented journalists, WI Wickets monthly
online Issues will inform, educate and inform its
readers. WI Wickets will serve to promote the
further development of West Indies cricket by
publicizing the cricket related activities and
initiatives of its primary stakeholders; Players,
Officials, Administrators and Sponsors.
Our first, eight page limited Issue features Part I
of an in-depth “Greatness Guide” interview with
Michael Holding, indisputably one of the greatest
fast bowlers world has ever seen. It is intended
to provide readers, including hopefully some
young West Indies fast bowlers with aspirations
of duplicating Holding’s now legendary
accomplishments, with insights to the evolution
of his remarkable cricket career as guide to
factors which resulted in its eventual, outstanding
success.
The Issue also includes renowned West Indies
Commentator Joseph Reds Perreira’s Memorable
Matches, Magnificent Memories recollection of
his exposure to West Indies Cricket. It is intended
to be the first of a continuing series of such
featured recollections from some of the ‘media
Moguls who have had longstanding associations
with West Indies cricket. The objective of the
Memorable Matches, Magnificent Memories
feature will be to serve as a means of highlighting
not only West Indies cricket’s very rich legacy
but also as means of reinforcing just how much
it means to those who have been very closely
associated with it for very many years.
We may be starting very small, but our intentions
are with your support to very quickly become
sufficiently big. Come Joins Us On The Journey!
