Canada-Afghanistan ICC 2020 U19 World Cup Match Abandoned Due To Rain!

Canada’s January 24 scheduled match against Afghanistan, its final Preliminary Round fixture at the South Africa hosted ICC 2020 World Cup, was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. The non- result cemented Canada’s cellar position at the bottom of the Group D Preliminary Round standings, with just 1 point from two matches actually played.

Team Canada’s involvement in the Tournament will now continue with its participation in the Plate Championship which will be contested among the third and fourth placed teams from each of the four Preliminary Groups. Canada will face the winner of the January 25 Group C match between Scotland and Zimbabwe on Tuesday January 28.

Mihir Patel with 106 runs from 2 innings batted, at a 58.00 average, was the Canadians’ highest run scorer at the conclusion of its Preliminary Round Matches. In the Bowling Department, Akhil Kumar with 4-100 from 12 overs bowled at an Economy Rate of 5.88 runs per over, was Canada’s most successful bowler in the Preliminary Round.
