Canada Suffers Second Successive ICC 2022 U19 World Cup Defeat.

Canada lost its second straight match at the ICC Under-19
Men’s Cricket World Cup. The Canadians suffered a
mammoth 1-6 run defeat in their January 18 encounter
against England.
Having won the toss and elected to field, the Canadians got off to
an excellent start. Fast bowler Parmveer Kharoud removed opening
batter Jacob Bethell for seven to leave England shakily placed at 26
for one. The English batting, however, soon found its groove with
opener George Thomas and captain Tom Prest adding 90 runs for
the second wicket.
Prest scored 93 before departing., while George Bell posted 57 and
Thomas 52 as England posted 320 runs for the loss of seven wickets
in their 50 overs. Bowling for the Canadians, Kairav Sharma 3-51/10
and Sheel Patel 2-42/10 were the main wicket-takers.
Canada in reply, and chasing a mammoth 321 for victory suffered
an early setback. Debutant opener Siddh Lad fell for 5 with the total
on just 14.
Canada did not lose its second wicket until 60 runs later as Anoop
Chima (38) and Yasir Mahmood (25) steadied the ship. But with
the score on 81 Chima was the first of four wickets to fall fairly
quickly as Canada declined to 109/6 after 31.1 overs
Gurnek Johal Singh (44) and Ethan Gibson (33) provided some
entertaining resistance towards the end before Canada was
eventually dismissed for 214 in the 49th over, 106 runs short of
England’s set total.
