Some exciting tournaments, geared towards stimulating
further meaningful growth of Women’s cricket within
the province, have been listed in Cricket Ontario’s 2022
Events Calendar. An Ontario Regional Championships,
a Central T20 and a Women’s National Tournament
are among the events listed as catering specifically to
the involvement of the province’s female cricketers.
Development Tours to Barbados and/or the USA, possibly as
early as this coming September, have also been listed as pending
in the provincial cricket governing body’s recently released- internally for Board planning – 2022
Events Calendar. The possibilities for a similar Development
Tour to Barbados by a Provincial men’s team are also
currently being explored by representatives of Cricket Ontario,
the Barbados Cricket Association and the island’s Toronto-based
Tourism officials.
Prior to the Barbados Tour hopefully becoming an actuality,
Ontario’s Men’s cricketers will themselves be actively busy
participating in Cricket Canada’s recently announced High
Performance League. Three Ontario teams, having been
temporarily identified as A, B and C, will participate in the
newly created League’s Preliminary Rounds which will also
involve two teams each from Alberta and British Columbia.
The respective provincial teams will play fifty-over matches
among themselves and in their own provinces as a prelude
to the Canadian National Championships which have been
scheduled to be held during the month of September. The
September 11- 15 Championships involving representative
teams from Alberta, British Columbia. Ontario and a fourth
National Squad team will be held at King City.
Ontario’s Junior Men’s cricketers are also scheduled to have
a relatively active 2022 Outdoors Season. Trials and Regional
Championships have also been tentatively scheduled in June for players within
the U16 and U18 age groups. Performances from those
matches will subsequently be used to select two Ontario
teams in July, as well as the Provincial squad to participate in
the 2022 U19 Canada Cup. August 22-26 are the listed dates
and Manitoba the provisional venue for the 2022 Canada Cup.
