Canada secured a comfortable 45-run victory over their Brazilian hosts as matches
continued at the 2022 South American Women’s Championships. Batting first
the Canadians posted a challenging 177/3 in their 20 overs. In reply, Brazil
could only get as far as 132/5 off to their 20 overs. Losing in the end by 45 runs.
Canada’s 177/3 first-strike total was built on the foundation of a 121-run
opening partnership between Danielle Mcgahey 78 and skipper Divya Saxena
48. Mcgahey 73 was made off of just 46 balls, with three sixes and nine fours
included. Saxena’s 48 was only slightly less aggressive requiring 33 balls and
including a solitary six as well as five fours.
Bowling for Brazil Nicole Cervone Monteiro and Carolina
Nascimento were the only wicket-takers. Monteiro took 1/26-4
while Nascimento had figures of 1/43-4.
R0berta Moretti Avery 63 was the top-scorer for Brazil in their
132/5 reply. Her runs were scored off 60 balls and included
seven fours.
The Brazilian wickets that fell were shared equally
among four Canadian bowlers. Hala Azmat 1/13-1,
Krima Kapadia 1/18-4, Rhea Misra 1/20-3 and Hiba
Shamshad 1/21-3 each took a solitary wicket.
