Canada Starts SA Women’s T20 Cships Campaign With Easy Win Over Argentina.

Canada began its quest for title honours at the Brazil-hosted
2022 South American T20 Women’s Championships with a
comfortable 112-run victory over Argentina. Batting first the
tournament’s opening match Canada posted a formidable 181/3-
20 that proved to be a mountain of Andean proportions for Argentina’s
batters. The South American ladies only managed to get as far as 69/10-
17.1 overs in reply.

Canada’s skipper Divya Saxena led from the front, striking an ultra-aggressive
46ball 82 that included 5 sixes and three fours. She was well supported by
her debutant opening partner Danielle Mcgahey’s 28, made off of 25 balls
with double fours and sixes included.

For Argentina, Tamara Basile and Alison Stocks were the only wicket-takers.
Basile had figures of 3/30-4 while Stocks took 1/26 from her four overs.
Chasing 182 for victory at an imposing run rate of 9+ per over, Argentina
got off to the shakiest of starts losing opener Veronica Vasquez for 2 off
the final ball of the initial over. From that unstable beginning they never
recovered as wickets fell with regularity until they were eventually all out
for just 69 in only 17.1 overs.

Maria Castineiras 12 and Malena Lollo 10 were the only batters to reach
double figures. For Canada. Hiba Shamshad had the best figures of 3/10-4
while Saxena chipped in with 2/11-4.
