Having celebrated his 19th Birthday on January
3, just days before Canada’s opening match
of the 2022 ICC U19 World Cup, Jash Shah’s
stated ambition is to mark the occasion by becoming
the tournament’s highest run-scorer. Beyond his
own personal glory quest, Shah also hopes that his
performances will take Team Canada, not only to
the Super League but even further to eventually win
the World Cup Trophy for the first time ever in the
tournament’s illustrious history.
The Canadian team of which Shah will be a member, has
been placed in Group A for the tournament’s opening
round matches, alongside defending champions
Bangladesh, traditional powerhouse England and
formidable UAE. Shah will therefore be up against
some very stiff opposition as he attempts to fulfill his
admittedly very lofty ambitions!
Born in Navsari, India Shah started playing cricket at
his Canadian family home in Goderich, Ontario, with
his father and uncle. He was truly fascinated and
highly inspired to play hard ball competitive cricket
by watching live telecast matches of the ICC Men’s
Cricket World Cup in 2011, including the final which
India won.
The highlight of his Canadian cricket career since then
has been having scored 109 runs off 54 deliveries (8
sixes & 5 fours). His team was at the time chasing a 226
victory target in a TDCA League T20 match.
Beyond the 2022 World Cup, Shah’s hopes will be to
continue enjoying his passion for playing cricket, to keep
learning to excel in his cricketing skills, to eventually
represent Canada’s Senior Men’s team, and to play for
Mumbai Indians in the IPL as well as other international
cricket franchises. At some future point, at the very top
of his cricketing career, he would also like to be among
the ICC’s highest-ranking batsmen.
