Name: Kairav Sharma
DOB: December 9, 2003
Birth Country,City: Brampton, Canada
Playing Role:
Bowling all-rounder
Batting Style: RHB
Bowling Style: RHLBAs an eighteen year old, Canadian born leg spinner, Kairav Sharma now idolizes Australia’s Shane Warner as his all-time favorite cricketer. A hardly surprising choice given Warne’s now indisputably established reputation as cricket’s greatest
ever practitioner of the often challenging art of top quality leg-spin!
Now a first-year student at the University of Toronto’s
Rotman Commerce College, Sharma grew up watching
his dad play cricket for local clubs, so he started to pick
up on the sport as a result. He later started his formal
cricket training at 11 years old at his now home facility,
the Tranzac Sports Academy, under the tutelage of his
very first coach – Sheriff Boodhoo
Since then Sharma has made an impressive journey
through the ranks of Canadian junior cricket, His most
impressive, memorable and rewarding performance
thus far was just this past summer during the Ontario
hosted 2021 Canada Cup. In the tournament fina
which featured Ontario vs. British Columbia, the hosts
had a poor start batting first, Thanks to Sharma’s most
valuable contribution of 38 not out, however, Ontario
eventually managed to post 148. Sharma then wove his
leg-spin magic, capturing 4 wickets as BC was bundled
out for just 23. A most memorable occasion indeed for
the young leggie.
Sharma views his bowling action as having its fair share
of similarities to that of England’s Rashid Khan. They
both run in and bowl with high release points, which
used to be less common for leg spinners to do.
Beyond the forthcoming 2022 ICC U19 World Cup, as
he looks forward to continuing his aspiring Canadian
career as a leg-spin bowling all-rounder, Sharma’s
primary aim will be to help Canada get back to the
to the highest possible level of international cricket.
Personally he also harbors hopes of being drafted to
play in global franchise Leagues such as the IPL, BBL,
Vitality Blast, and Canada’s own GT20.
